Caribou Police Chief Michael Gahagan said this week that he is extremely concerned about the recent apprehension of four individuals driving under the influence at local safety checkpoints. As part of the National Impaired Driving Crackdown, which continues through September 7, the Caribou Police Department, with help from the Aroostook County Sheriff’s Office, was able to stop approximately 150 vehicles at the safety checkpoints.
The safety checks resulted in the issuance of summonses for the following violations: two OUIs; one OUI/drugs; one administrative OUI; three illegal transportation of alcohol; one OAS; and one possession of marijuana.
Chief Gahagan stated, “Remember, our officers will be out in full force this upcoming holiday weekend. If you are over the limit, you will be under arrest. No one should drive drunk.”
