CARIBOU — The local Red Knights Motorcycle Club, Maine Chapter 7, recently made a $250 donation to organizers of Cary Medical Center’s Camp Adventure Program, an annual one-week summer camp for teenagers with Type 1 Diabetes. The main goal of Camp Adventure is to provide a safe, exciting experience for campers, including participating in a variety of activities like hiking, camping, canoeing, biking, kayaking, swimming and cooking, while learning to monitor and self-manage their diabetes.
The Maine Chapter 7 of the Red Knights Motorcycle Club (RKMC) recently donated to Cary Medical Center’s Camp Adventure Program. Participating in the donation presentation were, from left, RKMC Vice President Kevin Goodine; RKMC Secretary Kirk Ward; Erica Laplante, RN, BSN, diabetes educator and camp coordinator; Ann Gahagan, FNP-C, CDE, BC-ADM, camp director; Brian Lajoie, RKMC treasurer; and Mark Baker, RKMC president.
The Red Knights Motorcycle Club is comprised of local firefighters and family members who enjoy riding motorcycles. The club’s mission is to promote motorcycle safety and sportsmanship, and through various fund-raisers and club rides to raise money for several projects, including the Aroostook County Fire Chief’s Learn Not To Burn Program, Cary Medical Center’s Camp Adventure Program, and to provide assistance for burn victims from Aroostook County and their families, with transportation, food and lodging while they are receiving treatment at a burn facility.
“This is the Red Knights’ second donation for our camp and we are so grateful for their generous support,” said Erica Laplante, RN, BSN, Diabetes educator and camp coordinator. Camp Adventure will be held this year the week of June 20-25 at Baptist Park in Mapleton. Additional information about Camp Adventure can be obtained by calling the Cary Medical Center Diabetes Education Office at 498-1283 or e-mailing Laplante at elaplante@carymed.org.
