Most of the region’s boys soccer teams now have at least one game under their belt as the regular season’s first full week was completed.
The Caribou Vikings opened in style, winning a Friday night home game on Chad Caverhill’s game-winner which came in the first 13 minutes of the second half. Limestone/MSSM has played just once so far, losing at Van Buren Friday. Washburn won two of its first three to begin the campaign.
Summaries of games played through Monday, Aug. 23 follow:
Washburn 2, Wisdom 1 – The Pioneers fell for the first time this season Monday, losing at home to the Beavers.
Mitchell Worcester and Jordan McLaughlin scored a goal apiece for Washburn, now 2-1 on the season.
Caribou 2, Madawaska 1 – At Caribou Friday, Chad Caverhill scored the game-winning goal with 28:51 to play in the match as Caribou came through with a season-opening 2-1 victory over Madawaska.
Ben Blackstone scored the game’s first goal with 25:43 left in the first half. Garrett Jordan stopped six of 14 shots for the win in goal.
Dylan Wetmore tied it at 1-1 off an Ian Lee assist with 30:49 left in the second half for Madawaska. Owl goalkeeper Tim Deschenes made 10 saves off 15 shots.
Van Buren 4, LCS/MSSM 1 – At Van Buren Friday, A.J. Edgecomb netted two goals in leading Van Buren past Limestone-Maine School of Science and Mathematics.
Caleb Roy and Connor Lapierre also scored for the Crusaders, who won for the first time after opening with a pair of losses. Mark Levasseur assisted Edgecomb’s second goal.
Josh Forsman scored in the first half for the Eagles, who were playing their first game of the season.
Marc Lajoie saved nine of 10 shots for Van Buren, while Chris Bernard made 10 saves off 20 shots for the Eagles.
Central Aroostook 4, Washburn 3 – At Washburn Friday, Brandon Anthony scored with 1:12 remaining to break the 3-3 tie and cap the Panthers’ rally over Washburn.
Central Aroostook was down at intermission, 3-1.
McLaughlin scored two goals and assisted on the other for the 1-1 Beavers. Justin Farley scored the other goal while Worcester provided two assists. Goalie Zach Davis turned away nine of 13 shots.
Washburn 3, Easton 2 – Last Wednesday at Washburn, McLaughlin had the hat trick to propel Washburn past the Bears.
Worcester notched a pair of assists for the Beavers while Chris Farley had one. Davis made six saves on nine shots.
Central Aroostook 3, Fort Fairfield 1 – At Fort Fairfield last Wednesday, the Panthers came out on top by scoring three times after intermission.
Jay Williams netted a goal for Fort Fairfield on an assist from Travis Noyes. Chris Weeks stopped six of 15 shots.
