Viking, Tiger and Beaver boys need wins to make post-season

The playoffs are set to begin a week from Friday, on Oct. 22, so local soccer teams are approximately a week away from learning what the final Heal Point standings will be.

The top nine boys teams in Eastern Maine Class B and the top 10 in Class D will advance into the post-season.

Presque Isle is the current No. 1 team in B with their 10-1-1 record and 99.8724 tournament index. Caribou is 11th at 3-6-3 and has a tourney index of 31.6964. The Vikes still have a chance of getting in with victories in their final two games, including a 7 p.m. home contest against the Wildcats next Tuesday, Oct. 19 to end the regular season. Caribou also hosts Fort Kent tonight at 7 p.m.

In D, Central Aroostook is in sixth place with a 7-4 record and 33.5884 tournament index entering last night’s home game against Fort Fairfield, which is currently 10th at 4-6-1 and 12.8614 tourney index. Washburn holds onto the seventh position with its 7-3-1 mark and 30.5060 tourney index.

Limestone-MSSM (1-8, 3.7202) will fall short of qualifying for the playoffs.

Summaries of games played through Saturday follow:

Mount Desert Island 5, Caribou 0 – The Trojans traveled to Caribou Saturday and eased past the Vikings with two goals each by Dennis O’Neal and Ben Steel leading the way.

The Vikes were outshot by a 17-12 margin, with Garrett Jordan collecting seven saves in goal for Caribou.

Madawaska 7, Fort Fairfield 1 – At Fort Fairfield Thursday, Jon Lee and Ian Lee combined for four goals as the Owls improved to 7-4 with the win. Travis Noyes scored the lone goal for the Tigers, with Jay Williams getting the assist. Chris Weeks made 15 of 2 shots in goal for Fort Fairfield.

Fort Fairfield 5, Limestone-MSSM 3 – Noyes found the back of the net four times last Tuesday in Limestone, leading his team to the victory. Williams also scored off a Kyle Huston assist for Fort, with Weeks saving three of six shots in goal.

Josh Forsman scored twice and Brandon Nadeau had the other for the Eagles. Ben D’Haiti and Jamie Poitraw picked up assists and goalie Brett Butler saved five of 13 shots.
