ARLewisEvelyn0001Gray – Evelyn “Eve” Mary Langley Lewis, 86, passed at home Friday, October 8, 2010 after a long illness. Born April 29, 1924 in Perham, Maine. The daughter of Clarence Langley and Mary Michaud Langley. Predeceased by husband Kenneth M. Lewis, daughter Sheila Joy Lewis, her parents, brother Norman Langley, sister Mavis Langley -Joyce.


Evelyn graduated from Caribou High School in 1942 when she married husband Kenneth M. Lewis of Caribou, ME. They resided throughout Aroostook County and moved to Portland, ME in 1964 and finally settled in Gray in 1968. They had 10 children together, Gloria J. Horan, husband Timothy of Windham, ME, Carol A. Gauvin, husband Robert of Caribou, ME, Kenneth M. Lewis Jr., wife Penny Lewis of Buxton, ME, Steven G. Lewis, wife Cathy Lewis of Ocklawaha, FL., Terry D. Lewis, wife Gail Lewis of Gray, ME, Michael J. Lewis, wife June Lewis of Poland Spring, ME, Arlene D. Mariner, husband Charles of Lakeville, ME, Sherry J. Harmon, husband Richard of Livermore, ME and Lori L. Lewis of Gray, ME; sisters, Madeline Randall, Betty Walker and Aline Langley

Evelyn enjoyed the many family gatherings with her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She enjoyed gardening, traveling, shopping, yard sales, and making silk flower arrangements. She always surprised her family with May baskets every year. Evelyn was well known for keeping her children and their friends in line with whatever was in her reach, and gave us all plenty of exercise.

We will miss her found ways, acts of kindness and ability to always keep the family tightly bonded. Mom has gone home to embrace her husband Ken, daughter Sheila Joy, granddaughters Shona Marie Lewis and Aubreigh Jayne McKay.

Visiting hours were held on Sunday, October 10th at Wilson Funeral Home from 6-8pm. A funeral was held on Monday at 11a.m. at the Good Shepherd Methodist Church, 151 West Gray Road in Gray with a celebration of her life at the church following the service. Arrangements entrusted to Wilson Funeral Home, Gray. Reverend Thomas Merrill will Officiate.
