Sen. Susan Collins presented Shayne Hathaway a U.S. flag at a recent visit to his home in Washburn. Shayne, who is a Marine, is the foster son of Trooper Fred Thomas of the Maine State Police. He was wounded four times while on patrol in Afghanistan on Aug. 22. Shayne was treated at the National Naval Medical Center in Bethesda, Md., and has continued his recovery at home before returning to his unit in November.
