Red Cross move indicative of community support

To the editor:

The recent move of the Aroostook County Branch of the American Red Cross Pine Tree Chapter is proof positive that your local Red Cross is truly part of our community. The late January move to new, larger quarters at 7 Hatch Drive, Suite 250 in Caribou was made possible by many donations of time and effort.

If so many good people and organizations had not “stepped up to the plate” and offered their volunteer services, our move would have been very costly. Thanks to them, the money we saved helps us provide more disaster response, military family services, health and safety training, and emergency preparation work throughout the County.

Our special thanks go to our valued and loyal Red Cross volunteers, Bob Jordan, Bill Thomas and George Knorr for the many days of packing, disassembling fixtures and office set-up. We also want to thank the Loring Job Corps CDL Program and students for providing a truck, fuel, time and labor; the boys at Catholic Charities Christopher Home who hauled heavy boxes and disposed mounds of trash; Vern Ouellette, director of Aroostook County Emergency Management Agency who stored our Emergency Response Vehicle during our transition and even cleaned it for us; David Donovan of Donovan Enterprises who provided hours of maintenance; and Walter Kern who helped us move and set up our communications system.

The only word I can think of to credit our community is “amazing”! These individuals are true champions of the American Red Cross which serves as a humanitarian organization led by volunteers.

Your local Red Cross is here and ready to serve you 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and 365 days a year. Give us a call at 493-4620, and watch for information about our open house.
