The 27th annual Wild Katahdin Trust Snow Run/Walk will be held during Moosestompers Weekend on Saturday, Feb. 19.

The walk begins at 10:45 a.m., followed by the 5K run at 11 a.m. Walkers and runners begin the course at the John Millar Civic Center in Houlton’s Community Park. Registration will be held from 9:30-10:35 a.m. in the civic center. Cost is $10, with a T-shirt to the first 50 registered participants.

Proceeds of the run/walk will go to the 154th Engineers Division of the National Guard’s Family Readiness Group.

“I would like to raise $1,000 for the group,” said Larry Tonzi, organizer of the event.

Awards will be presented after the run/walk to the first two finishers in each category of the 5K race and the first five walkers. Special awards to be made are the Mean Runner and Guts Award. Trophies will be made to the first-place, three-member male and female team.

Categories for the 5K run are: 14 and under; 15-18; 19-29; 30-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60 and over.

The course begins at Millar Civic Center’s front entrance, and the course is flat, but slippery in spots due to the weather and climate.

The Snow Run is first race in the County Challenge Series put on by a local running club – the Aroostook Musterds. The series stretches from February to Septemeber and includes races all over Aroostook County.
