GRACE E. JEFFERS
LIMESTONE and BRISTOL, N.H. — Grace E. Jeffers, 92, passed away Friday afternoon, March 11, 2011, at a Caribou nursing facility, after a period of declining health. She was born off Peaked Hill Road, Bristol, New Hampshire on February 1, 1919, the only child of Jesse and Mazie (Jenness) Jeffers. She attended Bristol, NH schools and was a graduate of the Bristol High School, Class of 1937. Following the death of her father, Grace, together with her mother, operated a small farm which purchased and raised young dairy animals and poultry for sale to the public. Grace enjoyed outdoor sports such as hunting, fishing and participating in the stewardship of the fields and forest. She cared deeply about protecting the environment; “the birds and the bees and the tall oak trees”, and strongly believed in protecting land for agricultural production. Grace served as historian of the Locke District of Peaked Hill, New Hampshire, a former member of the Audubon Society and a seventy-six year member of the New Hampton Grange, serving as treasurer for a time. She resided in Limestone for the past several years where she attended the United Methodist Church.
In addition to her parents, Grace was predeceased by her lifelong friend Harold Davis. She is survived by one daughter and son-in-law, Rea and Andy Caldwell of Limestone; two grandchildren, Jesse L. Caldwell of Houlton, Leah D. Caldwell of Limestone; a great-granddaughter, Emily LaPointe of Limestone; and many close friends in Maine, New Hampshire and Massachusetts including Mrs. Harold (Anna) Davis of Bristol, N.H.
Friends may call Wednesday, March 16, 2011, from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at the Limestone Methodist Church, Main Street, Limestone where the funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m. with Pastor Ellen Cleaves officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments will be held in the church reception area, immediately after the service. A spring interment and committal service will be held at the Homeland Cemetery, Bristol, NH and will be announced in the Laconia Citizen. Those who wish may contribute in memory of Grace to the charity or organization of one’s choice. Envelopes will be available at the service. Arrangements have been entrusted to the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, Maine.
