To the editor:
I marvel at the audacity of Hayes Gahagan for getting Aroostook County Republicans to raise nearly $38,000 to purchase the mural that should now be entitled “Governor LePage’s Folly.” This mural belongs to all the people of Maine, not any political party, and shouldn’t be up for sale without the consent of the people.
In times as hard as these, with high unemployment in the County, and so many of our proud citizens in dire need of assistance, would it not be a better choice to raise money to help those in our communities who are in need of such help? We have food pantries, homeless shelters, The Hope and Justice Project, and many other worthwhile charitable institutions that could benefit greatly by the Aroostook County Republican Committee donating that money to these institutions who aid of those who need it most.
Here is a chance for County Republicans to show that their first thoughts are always to help out the people of Aroostook, first and foremost.
