WASHINGTON, D.C. — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins was honored recently by the National Park Trust as the 2011 recipient of the Bruce F. Vento Public Service Award. Sen. Collins received the award due to her outstanding record in land conservation and environmental protection, including her preservation of 10,000 acres at Stowe Mountain and Robinson Peak Lands, and her leadership in Congress to protect air quality, including her introduction of the CLEAR Act (Carbon Limits and Energy for America’s Renewal).
“ I am fortunate to have been born and raised in a state that is blessed with natural gifts; from the spectacular scenery of Acadia and the wilderness of the Allagash, to our pure spring waters, clean air, and majestic forests,” stated Sen. Collins. “The people of Maine know that these gifts are not to be taken for granted, but must be cherished, nurtured and protected. The environment in which I grew up is the foundation of my work on environmental issues in the Senate.”
The Bruce F. Vento Public Service Award was established in 2000 by the National Park Trust to recognize public servants for their commitment to a clean environment and dedication to the conservation of America’s public lands.
