Halfway Home spaying funds are depleted

To the editor:

All of our Halfway Home adult cats are $25 to a good home until July 30th. They have all been leukemia tested, spayed or neutered, all shots, wormed and treated with a 30-day parasite prevention program. We have given each cat at least $150 to $200 of medical care before adoption and we ask only $25 from you because we want you to be able to give the home and love to an animal in desperate need.

Please shop with us at our Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Garage Sale as this is another way we raise funds for our massive spay/neuter program. Right now, we have financially covered our outstanding spay vouchers for our kittens, but we are out of funds for low-income family spaying. The state program is also out of funds for this program. This is sad because the lack of low-income spay programs is the reason so many dogs and cats end up in a shelter environment. We can only hope to find more grant funding for our programs, chances are slim because in this economy the competition is extremely difficult. It’s a tough economy.

We continue to have our “pet of the week” at the Tractor Supply store in Presque Isle. Perhaps you would like to take time to visit and consider this week’s pet.

Please take your returnable bottles to 88 Bennett Drive Redemption or if you live in PI go to the Presque Isle Redemption Center. The shopping cart at Paradis Shop n’ Save in Caribou is a real blessing for our Free Pet Food Pantry and the Purina Kitten Chow and bleach is a real basic need of our shelter cats.

Please remember that HHPR receives no state or municipal funding. We are totally dependent on our fund-raising events and your kindness. At this time, we need all the help we can get to get through some very challenging medical cases.
