PRESQUE ISLE — The first Crow’s Nest Octoberfest 10K road race is being called a success and organizers are hoping to bring the event back again next year.

About 70 runners took part in the inaugural Crow’s Nest Octoberfest 10K race. PJ Gorneault and Alecia Palmer were the overall winners.
Nearly 70 runners Saturday took part on an unusually warm October day. PJ Gorneault was the first competitor to cross the finish line in a time of 34:40. The women’s division winner was Alecia Palmer, in a time of 44:54.
The 6.2-mile course started and ended at the Crow’s Nest Restaurant in Presque Isle.
Not only did the runners get a beautiful day, but the Pine Tree Chapter of the American Red Cross raised more than $2,000 dollars. All registration fees went entirely to the charity.
“This wouldn’t have been possible without the volunteers from the Presque Isle middle and igh Schools, UMPI, Presque Isle fire and police departments and local Red Cross,” said race organizer Martin Puckett.
Other division winners for the men were: 19 and under, Jacob Michaud, 47:14; 20-29, Curtis Wheeler, 35:24; 30-39, Evan Graves, 38:01; 40-49, Jeff Ashby, 39:56; 50-59, Alan Schlemmer, 46:25; and 60-69, Nick Pesut, 52:59.
The women’s division winners were: 20-29, Marie Beckum, 45:43; 30-39, Susan Plissey, 50:26; 40-49, Angela Ewings, 46:00; and 50-59, Robin Norsworthy, 1:01:22.
