A longtime television news director and veteran print reporter has been hired to write sports and news at the Caribou and Presque Isle newspapers. Jon Gulliver began his full-time post on Oct. 3.
A Houlton native and journalism major at the University of Maine at Presque Isle, Gulliver brings more than two decades of journalism experience to The Star-Herald and Aroostook Republican & News where he will cover sports and recreation throughout central Aroostook County as well as ongoing news and promotional assignments.
Most recently, Gulliver served as news director/station manager for WAGM-TV in Presque Isle.
Gulliver also has public relations and marketing experience that he developed during a stint at the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife as the department’s media coordinator.
“I have been fortunate to have had jobs where my technical, organizational, editorial and communication skills have been put to use,” he said.
Gulliver lives in Presque Isle with his fiancée and their 15-year old daughter. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking with his family and golden retriever. He also volunteers through the Kiwanis, Catholic Charities and Special Olympics programs.
