CARIBOU — The Caribou Public Library is now offering e-books through a service called Axis 360. “The Axis 360 e-books will compliment the library’s existing e-book offerings and will reduce the wait time users are currently experiencing through Overdrive,” noted Caribou Library Director Diane DuBois. “Axis 360 will enable staff to better personalize the e-books collection, which is a really nice feature,” she added.
The e-books will be displayed on a “magic wall” through a link on the library’s website and may be viewed on a free reader application known as Blio, which is the first reader app to be 100 percent ADA compliant. The e-books will run on Windows, IOS, Android computers, laptops, tablets and smart phones. Axis 360 will also offer ePub format that allows patrons with e-readers such as Nook and Kobo to use this service. Amazon’s Kindles are not compatible at this time; however, the library will continue its relationship with the Overdrive which allows library users with Kindles, along with other e-readers continued access to library e-books.
Users must have an active library card to use this service. The site is password protected so users will need to contact the library to get their passwords.
Persons desiring further information are asked to contact the library at 493-4214.
