Life is good at Pet Rescue

To the editor:
Life is good at Halfway Home Pet Rescue (HHPR). My goodness, look at the lives saved and cats that now wait in line for a future permanent home. I am proud of our group. As a no-kill volunteer shelter, we will always live on a shoestring. This is why we are labeled a non-profit corporation. In January, we actually spayed/neutered 30 cats; took in 31 more, and adopted out 30. Hey, wait! This doesn’t include the nine cats that we sent to the Greater Androscoggin Humane Shelter last Thursday. And within 24 hours all of the nine cats had been adopted.

Our new friend, Tom Drew, has offered us a side of beef and both sides of a pig to have a drawing this summer. Anne Price added a brand new barbecue grill to the ticket and we are looking at another couple of items. Wow! Can you imagine having a side of beef for all your grilling needs all summer and to still start the winter with plenty of meat left in your freezer. The drawing profits will help with lots of spaying and neutering. Thank you for these donations, Tom Drew and Anne Price.
We have several “special needs” cats and we are looking for unique homes to fit their requirements. Henry has a left ear that needs close attention on an almost daily basis. He has an extremely sweet disposition— and the bad ear that requires less than five minutes of care each day. Mr. PAWS has a nervous tummy and an allergy to any food with the corn ingredient. PAWS requires a diet of dry Beyond cat food with a spoonful of chicken and cottage cheese on a calm day or chicken and yogurt on a busy day. Darrell is just so sweet and bashful and needs a home that will let his friend, Bill, come with him. Both cats are super good cats — not lap cats but very sweet and they relax once they get to know you. They came in feral, but we feel they are much too loving to go as a barn cat. Lucy and Margaret came from an almost feral background, but are turning tame and will soon be loving house cats. Harold is just a sweet wimp. He enjoys others cats but doesn’t enjoy too much petting from people. He is a great hunter and very gentle with humans.
All of these cats have a special price for a special home and family. Talk to us, maybe your home will match their need and life will be good for everyone.
