• Mail to and from Caribou is now carried by train.
• H. A. Edwards of this village has decided to build a 48-barrell roller flour mill in connection with his gristmill during the coming season.
• L. K. Duff, who has charge of the bowling parlor, badly jammed a finger on his right hand last week as, stepping back, he struck his hand containing a ball on the railing.
100 Years Ago-Feb. 27, 1913
• The season for fires — The residence and stable of Fred Akeley on his farm in Crouseville took fire in some way and burned to the ground last Saturday night. The buildings on the Tuttle farm in Washburn on the Caribou Road burned last Friday and on Saturday night the buildings on the John Easler farm in Crouseville were burned.
• News from downtown — P. J. Powers has sold one-half interest in the Gem Theater to “Billey” Jones, the noted ball player. The $50,000 appropriation for Caribou’s new post office has been passed by Congress; now for actual work this year. New goods of all kinds are arriving daily at the Pattee Co.’s store.
75 Years Ago-Mar. 3, 1938
• Banquet features local foods — The third annual Sportsmen’s Banquet was attended by over 100 enthusiastic sport-lovers and their guests. Those present included His Excellency Governor Lewis O. Barrows. The meal consisted of a cocktail, buffalo steak, venison steak, roast black bear, sauerkraut, baked beans, potato scallop, mashed turnip, creamed carrots, buttered beets, pickles, jellies, rolls and bread, apple and mince pie, also including cigars, cigarettes, nuts, candy and gum.
• Handkerchief shower — Miss Marguerite Stubbs was the guest of honor at a handkerchief shower Friday afternoon at the home of her aunt, Mrs. Bessie Salsbury.
50 Years Ago-Feb. 28, 1963
• Rainbow Girls initiate five — The Caribou Assembly, Order of Rainbow Girls, met at the Masonic Hall with Mother Advisor, Mrs. Philip H. Brown and Worthy Advisor Jane Snow presiding. The five new candidates initiated were Misses Diane Brown, Carol Fogg, Nancy Norton and Marion Roderick of Caribou and Miss Jo Temples of Loring AFB.
• Brakeless truck wreaks havoc — A log-loaded pulp truck lost its brakes and careened wildly down Main Street hill and into the heart of the local business section Thursday afternoon. It finally stopped by the Hotel Caribou hill at the foot of Vaughn Avenue after sideswiping an oil truck, colliding with a taxi and crushing a passenger car. Six persons were reported injured in the accident.

• Women’s month events — In honor of National Women’s History Month, events are scheduled throughout Aroostook County. Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute will host a day-long seminar on non-traditional careers for women. Cary Medical Center will offer a three-hour workshop on addictive relationships and self esteem. The University of Maine at Presque Isle presents “Winning with Women” with a keynote address by Maine State Housing Authority Director Libby Mitchell.
• Duffy to coach All-Stars — Caribou boys’ basketball coach, Gerry Duffy, has one more game to coach before finishing out his career. He has been selected to lead the Class A-B Eastern Maine All-Star Team at on March 19. Duffy, after leading the Vikings for 22 seasons, resigned from coaching this year.
