Community invited out to Refuge event

LIMESTONE — Officials with the Friends of the Aroostook National Wildlife Refuge are inviting the community out on Saturday, May 18, from 9 a.m. to noon to help the ANWR Staff and friends as they visit a predetermined number of vernal pools to assess their condition and species abundance.

Pools are searched for egg masses of wood frogs, blue spotted salamanders and spotted salamanders by walking the perimeter of each pool. Counts of the number of egg masses for each species are recorded independently by each observer.
Participants are encouraged to remember their waterproof footwear and their insect spray.
