Caribou team wins state softball title

    CARIBOU — A team that competes out of Caribou beat out eight other teams to win the Northern Maine ASA Class E State Men’s Slo-Pitch Softball Tournament, held at the Teague Park diamond Saturday and Sunday.

    T.W. Willard came out of the loser’s bracket to defeat Shananigans of the Ellsworth league twice, 7-0 and 12-7, and win the championship.
    In the finals, Shananigans bolted out to a 5-1 lead, but Willard’s bounced back by scoring three times in both the third and fourth innings and never looked back.
    Reggie Thibodeau went 4 for 4 and Ethan McDuffie 3 for 4 to pace the winning offense.
    Brandon Caverhill was named MVP of the event. Other members of the T.W. Willard squad are Ted Walker, Chad McCarthy, Chad Caverhill, Pat Thibodeau, Matt Curry, Kyle Anderson, Cody Herbert, Cody Thibodeau and Eric Brown.
    Buck Construction of Presque Isle placed third and the Juggernauts of the Calais league took fourth.
    Other teams competing were McCain’s/Sports Inn of Caribou, The Crew of Calais, the Smashers of Houlton and the Outlaws and Miles Motor Sports, both of Ellsworth.
