Re: HOG Rally article

To the editor:
Harley-Davidson Motor Company products do not roar. All HD-made products are low-noise-exhaust-emission regulated products. The total noise these products make as experienced from the distance of standing on a front lawn is equal to the sounds of a running dishwasher while sitting two rooms away.

What your article referred to as “roaring Harleys” is known as illicit highway operation in direct violation of Maine’s general muffler regulations Title 29a 1912 subsection 3 Amplification Prohibited. No person can operate a low-noise-exhaust-emission product on a highway that has been modified in such a way that its applicable noise controls have resulted in raised volumes over the standard configuration.
Any motorcycle that is heard roaring — any model, at any engine speed — in a traffic soundscape is breaking the law. Why are you condoning these crimes about to happen with your article?
