Caribou – David A. Thomas, 74, died August 25, 2013, at Caribou following a long illness. He was born in Caribou, October 6, 1938, the son of the late Alfred and Evelyn (Warnock) Thomas.
He was a 1956 graduate of Caribou High School and worked for many years at his family’s business, Northeastern Supply Company. He then worked as a sales representative for Bushmann’s of Lewiston for over 28 years. Mr. Thomas was an active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church, where he served as a church deacon, chairman of the Board of Deacons, usher, as well as serving on and being part of numerous other church committees and groups. He also volunteered at Cary Medical Center which he dearly loved.
Surviving in addition to his loving wife of over 52 years, Mariel (Espling) Thomas of Caribou, are his two sons and daughters-in-law; Kurt and Donna Thomas of Illinois and James and Nora Thomas of Caribou; one daughter, Lori Thomas of Dummerston, VT.; two sisters, Harriet Jackson of Thornton, TX and Beverly Hightower and her husband David of TX; eight grandchildren, John Thomas and wife Stephanie, Traci Rogers and husband Ryan, Danielle Thomas, Desirae Bouiler, Heather Calcasola and husband Chris, Scott Johnson and Kristin Goddard, Allison and husband Michael Tysinger; five great-grandchildren, DeMari Thomas, Reese Rogers, Kayli Thomas, Lilliana and Adalynn Calcasola; two sisters-in-law, Annella Thomas of Caribou and Janice Thomas of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Thomas was predeceased by his parents, two brothers, Richard and Fred, and two brothers-in-law, Bill Jackson and Alwin Espling. Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 2:00 p.m. Thursday, August 29, 2013, from the Caribou United Baptist Church with Rev. John Kiehn and Pastor Troy Heald, officiating. Interment will be in the Evergreen Cemetery. Following the service all are invited to a time of continued fellowship and refreshments in the church dining hall.
