• For the horseless carriage — The advertisement reads, “Having leased the Pitcher and Briggs building on Sweden street, formerly occupied by H. H. Whitney as a furniture store, I shall conduct an up-to-date garage and will be open day and night, ready to respond to all calls. I shall also carry gasoline and a full line of automobile accessories, etc. Machine shop in connection.” — H. B. Rogers.
• Caribou area locals — Clarence Findlen visited relatives in town Sunday and went to Van Buren Monday where he will be the guest of his brother Miles, who is a druggist in this town. He will return to Fort Fairfield area next week where he is engaged to teach school. Miss Eska Carr resumed her position as bookkeeper for the Caribou Water Light & Power Co. last week after a two weeks’ vacation.
75 Years Ago-Sept. 1, 1938
• Fort Fairfield air show — Sunday and Monday, Sept. 4 and 5, are the dates of Fort Fairfield’s First Annual Air Show sponsored by the Fort Fairfield Lions Club, to be held at the field on the country club road one mile from the village, directly opposite Riverside Cemetery. Events scheduled are 50 mile aerial parade, spot landings, bomb dropping, races, parachute jumping, acrobatics, passenger hopping and band concerts.
• New Sweden locals — Ernest Jacobson and Swen Norberg are doing carpenter work for Theodore Hedstrom, who is building a new house just north of the one occupied by the family. A cement foundation has been placed under the town hall in Westmanland. The work was done by John Ringdahl & Sons.

• A new vocational school — Principal Keith K. Thompson of the Northeastern Maine Vocational Institute (later known as Northern Maine Vocational Technical Institute, and currently Northern Maine Community College) announced classes will commence Monday, Sept. 9, with courses offered in practical nursing, automotive mechanics, building construction and electricity.

• New hires at Stockholm School — Startup of school in Stockholm for the 1988-89 school year will see new teachers, a new principal, new classroom assignments and new playground at the Stockholm Elementary School. The new teacher-principal, Denise Bosse, has been assigned grades six, seven and eight. Debra (Johnson) Blanchette has been hired for the kindergarten/special education position. Also, Debra Hodgson has been hired to teach health and physical education in Stockholm and New Sweden.
