It’s been a busy year for the County Federal Credit Union. Their recent expansion into southern Aroostook County by opening a branch at 247 North Street in Houlton has meant great things for all of the financial institution’s over 16,000 members.
“As we grow, we’re able to provide more services through additional capital and the earnings that we have — we turn that right back to the services we provide to our members,” explained Kenneth Hensler, CEO of the CFCU.
Prior to the merger with the Houlton Federal Credit Union in 2011, CFCU members only extended as far south as Westfield. Now CFCU serves a total of 55 Aroostook communities, including Monticello, Haynesville, Houlton, Oakfield, Linneus, Sherman, Smyrna and Island Falls, just to name a few.
On January 22, the Houlton CFCU branch opened its doors. The brand new, state-of-the-art building sits on two acres of land conveniently located right on U.S. Route 1 next to the Irving Big Stop.
The branch includes two drive-through teller lanes and a drive-up ATM. A community room is available in the back of the building for the public to use for meetings or gatherings.
First founded as the Loring Federal Credit Union in 1956, the CFCU’s mission is to provide a variety of quality financial services that are competitively priced and offer a fair return to their members.
In keeping with its promise to simplify its members’ financial life and make it easy to do business, the CFCU introduced iTalk, a new and improved telephone banking service, in June. And County MoGO is an application that can be downloaded for mobile banking with CFCU on Apple, Android, Blackberry, Windows Mobile and SMS devices.
The CFCU also launched its second Count on the County initiative this year. The program awards $1,000 to non-profits in Aroostook County within the field of membership on a monthly basis. Count on the County began in June and runs for seven months. Anyone who wishes to nominate an organization may download a nomination form on the CFCU website at www.countyfcu.org.
