Established in 2005, Aroostook County Sharpening Service has been providing services for Caribou and the surrounding communities, with the capability to service most any tool requiring a sharp edge.
Located at 529 Van Buren Road, owner Doug Shrum’s business is open weekdays and his normal business hours are from 9 a.m.-4 p.m., but he is willing to tailor his times to best meet his customer’s needs.
He said most work is completed within three business days, but “if people need things right away, I’m usually able to handle that too,” Shrum said.
“People generally don’t like to wait, so I like to turn things around as quickly as I can,” he added.
Shrum said he is able to provide sharpening service for circular blades up to 20 inches.
“Recently, we have branched into providing parts and accessories needed for chainsaws, mowers and other small engines, with many common-use parts on hand,” Shrum said, adding that “if we don’t have the needed part, we can usually get it in three to five business days.”
He said he also possesses a few parts for older mowers and other small engines.
Shrum said Aroostook County Sharpening Service began a new feature this past spring, providing minor service work, oil changes and minor tune-ups.
“I like to provide timely and quality service,” Shrum said.
Shrum’s clientele generally come from Caribou, Presque Isle, Limestone and other nearby towns, but he is interested in branching out to other regions in Aroostook County.
He is exploring starting a mobile service, which would take him to towns in northern and southern Aroostook to set up his truck for the day to handle multiple projects.
