PRESQUE ISLE – Rose A. DeMerchant, 86, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Friday morning, May 15, 2009. She was born on March 23, 1923, in West Chapman, the daughter of Jasper and Flossie (Hilton) MacPherson. 
Rose married Chester DeMerchant on Dec. 9, 1945. She was a devoted military wife, mother, grandmother, and traveled all over the world. Rose worked as the bookkeeper for the family business, DeMerchant’s Trailer Park in Presque Isle. She was a devoted member of the State Street Baptist Church and served as the secretary-treasurer of the Sunday school for many years.
She is survived by her husband, Chester E. of Presque Isle; a son, David and his wife Sharon of Presque Isle; four grandchildren, Cristyn DeMerchant of Virginia, Melissa DeMerchant of Portland, Gregory Todd Bartlett of Caribou, and Stephanie Murray of Alaska; four great- grandchildren, 2 great-great- grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a son, Gary DeMerchant; a daughter, Karen Bartlett; eight siblings, Robert, Almon, Marjorie, Donald, Evelyn, Doriene, Roland, and her twin sister Ruth.
Funeral services were held 1 p.m. Tuesday, May 19, 2009 at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle with the Rev. Michael Shaw officiating. Relatives and friends called noon until time of service at the funeral home. Interment was in Fairmount Cemetery, Presque Isle. After the burial, there was a reception at the State Street Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the State Street Baptist Church, P.O.
