On hand for the presentation of a $1,000 Count on The County award to the Caribou Veterans’ Memorial Park Association from The County Federal Credit Union were, from left, association members Douglas Michaud, Cindy Harvey, Phil McDonough and David Ahlquist, Ken Hensler, president and CEO of CFCU, John Wallace of the park association, Wallace’s dog Blizzard, and Ryan Ellsworth, executive vice president of CFCU.

This $1,000 award will help the association toward completing the park located on the corner of South Main and Lyndon Streets in Caribou that offers veterans and non-veterans a place to visit and reflect on those who’ve gone to battle in defense of our nation.
So far the Caribou Veterans’ Memorial Park Association has installed a flagpole in the center of an impressive five-point star, a park sign, and has completed work on the base for the Civil War statue at the site. Future plans include completing renovations on the statue, placement of a memorial featuring America’s five service emblems and a memorial for prisoners of war and those missing in action.
The association estimates the cost of completing the Caribou Veterans’ Memorial Park to be $45,000.  They have, so far, received $3,500 in donations.
The County Federal Credit Union, with branches in Caribou, Presque Isle, Fort Fairfield and Houlton, encourages everyone to take part in this initiative by nominating a deserving organization.  Applications are available in all branch locations and online at www.countyfcu.org.  Eligible submissions must be a 501(c) non-profit organization in good standing.
Each month the Count on The County selection committee will choose a non-profit organization from the list of submissions to receive the award.
