Presque Isle – John H. Walsh, 81, passed away May 17, 2009, at a local hospital. He was born May 4, 1928, in Brooklyn, N.Y,. to John and Ellen Walsh of Dun Loaghaire, Ireland.
He is survived by his wife, Anna G. (McBurnie) Walsh of 55 years. He is also survived by his eight children, John & Deb Walsh of Clifton, ME, Joanne & Scott Records of Bar Harbor, ME, Gail Wylder of Presque Isle, ME, Jayne & Abdelkader Ragab of Brooklyn, NY, Gina & Robert Muller of Basking Ridge, NJ, Kerry Muriel Walsh, and fiance, Gary A. Smith of Presque Isle, ME, Kathy Addessi-Walsh of Staten Island, NY, and Erin & Karl Casey of Presque Isle, ME. He is survived by his 14 grandchildren; four step-grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren, Jonell Walsh, Kelly Addessi Scotto and husband, Matthew, Brianne Records, Connor Records, Brian Muller, Kaitlyn Muller, Kyle Muller, Bonnie Wylder, Sean Muriel, Katherine Muriel, Amir Ragab, Amber Addessi, Trevor Casey and Victoria Casey; great-grandchildren Faith Walsh and Jason Scotto; step-grandchildren, Hope Sund-Gabric, Jeannie Sund, Brianna Sund and Lily M. Sund. John is also survived by his brother, Stanley & Patricia of Wicklow, Ireland. He is also survived by his sister-in-law and her husband, Lynette and Clayton Coffin, South Portland, ME and their family, and his sister-in-law and her husband, Gwen McBurnie and Bud Porter, Wade, ME, and their family. He was predeceased by his parents, John and Ellen Walsh.
John attended Christian Brothers School in Ireland. When he was 17, he worked his way on a ship back to Brooklyn, where he enlisted in the Air Force. He served in Germany, Japan, Presque Isle Air Base and Dow Field in Bangor. After leaving the service, he moved his family to Brooklyn, N.Y. where they lived for 30 years before returning to Presque Isle in 1992. John was employed with St. Luke's Roosevelt Hospital, New York City for 20 years. He was also employed with Lennox Hill Hospital, New York City and Pope John Paul Senior Home, Brooklyn. In Presque Isle, he worked at the Exxon Mobil Station and J.C. Penney's Maintenance Department for nine years before finally retiring in 2004.
Funeral services will be held at Duncan-Graves Funeral Home, 30 Church St., Presque Isle on Friday, May 22, 2009 at 1 p.m. with the pastors James Ackerson of Bethany Baptist Church, Presque Isle along with Pastor John P. Walsh of Clifton, ME and Pastor Scott Records of First Baptist Church of Bar Harbor, ME officiating. Friends may call from 12 noon until time of service at the funeral home. Reception to follow at Bethany Baptist Church, Presque Isle.
