Discount cards given to Daughters of Isabella

The Daughters of Isabella held their October meeting on Oct. 1 at the Parish Center, starting with a delicious potluck supper. Dolores D. Martin won the 50/50 raffle in the amount of $11.50. Arline St. Peter was the birthday of the month. “Happy Birthday” was sung and she was the recipient of a small gift.

Regent Mary Ellen Field brought the meeting to order at 6:45 p.m. She thanked everyone for attending the installation on Sept. 29, and also thanked Debbie Chabre for acting as marshal for the installation. She also thanked Jackie Johnson who assisted State Vice Regent Martha Dufour in conducting the installation.
Opening prayer was led by past chancellor Josephine St. Peter followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and Ode. Jean Bushnell was installed as First Guide, assisted by Marshal Debbie Chabre. Draping of the charter was done in memory of Viola Willard. Assisting were past regent Elaine Haines, Debbie Chabre and Josephine St. Peter. The memorial hymn, “Oh What could My Jesus do more,” was sung. Roll call of officers showed 13 present and five absent.
Under Visitation of the Sick, cards were sent to Norma Bouchard, Adeline Beaulieu, Norma Shaw, Bea Dostie, Madeline Guerrette, Gail Hjort, Jackie Dostie Smith and Nancy and Harold Saucier. A card will be sent to Omerine Cyr.
Bea Pirie brought in some items for the layette program. Vice Regent Elaine Haines reported on the Forty Week Club and several members joined.
There will be a training workshop for the newly elected officers on Saturday, Oct. 12 in Caribou at the Parish Center. Registration begins at 8 a.m. and the workshop at 8:30 a.m., concluding at noontime. Daughters are asked to bring sweets for the mid-morning break. The State officers will be here to do the training.
Discount cards are available from most of the Daughters. There are 18 vendors on the card and they can be visited daily for the discounts. These make great gifts that keep on giving. The sale of the cards benefits the many charities of the Daughters in our community.
Regent Mary Ellen led the Obligation taken by all present. She thanked the refreshment committee for this evening: Debbie Chabre, Jeanine Belanger and Lue Wark. Next month’s committee will be Dolores D. Martin, Joan Bishop and Jeanine Morneault. This will be held on Nov. 5 at 6 p.m. at the Parish Center. A memorial service is planned for the deceased members of the past year.
The meeting adjourned at 7:30 p.m. The closing prayer and Daughters of Isabella song were sung.
