PRESQUE ISLE — Five young ladies competed for the title of Pre-Teen Presque Isle 2009 on May 2, with Lydia Patterson taking the title at the end of the evening.

The pageant, a fund-raiser for the Class of 2010, was held at the Presque Isle High School Auditorium, with family and friends in attendance to cheer their favorite contestant on. The girls were judged in four categories: interview, casual wear, talent and evening wear.
On the way to winning the crown, Patterson, the daughter of Ariana Patterson and Mike Sullivan, also took the talent award, dancing to the tune “Tiny Dancer.”
Libbee Currie, the daughter of Noel and Shelia Currie, sang “Frankie and Johnny” for her talent presentation. Currie was recognized for having the highest ticket sales.
Madison Bearden performed a self-choreographed dance routine to “What a Feeling.” The daughter of Kathy and Jeff Bearden, she was named first runner-up.
Rachel Maxwell, daughter of Clarina and Albert Nadeau and Del Maxwell Jr., sang “This is Me” for her talent.
The title of Miss Congeniality went to Abigail Shaw, daughter of Andy and Amanda Shaw. For her talent she sang “What If.”
Special guests including visiting queens from various Aroostook County communities, as well as Miss Presque Isle 2009 Haley Johnston and Little Miss Presque Isle 2009 Taylor Hedrich and 2008 Little Miss Potato Queen Chloe Wheeler, each of whom performed dance numbers. Also making their final appearances were outgoing queens Pre-Teen Presque Isle 2008 Jordan Buckley and Jordyn Kinney, who assumed the title of 2008 Miss Teen Presque Isle when Johnston was named Miss Presque Isle earlier this year.
Patterson will now represent the city during various functions in the coming year, including Sesquicentennial Celebration events.
