LIMESTONE – The Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) is competing against more than 3,700 schools across America for the chance to win $25,000 through U.S. Cellular’s “Calling All Communities” program.
The U.S. Cellular program will award $25,000 each to the 20 schools who receive the most votes through the U.S. Cellular website, and MSSM is currently ranked number 21.
Voting ends on November 25; the public can vote at the Calling All Communities website, callingallcommunities .dachisdev.com, and searching for the zip code “04750” to help Maine’s first magnet school reach the top 20 and win $25,000.
If MSSM succeeds in reaching the top 20, it will mark the second grant they have received from U.S. Cellular this year.
In early November, MSSM received $981 through the wireless carrier’s Calling All Teachers campaign. School officials explained that the grant was used to purchase chemistry probes for measuring changes in temperature, pH, chloride ions, and nitrogen. Working with the new probes and collecting new types of data will lead to more experience in data analysis, which is a great boon for budding scientists.
