Snowmobile education and ATV safety
The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department will offer a snowmobile education and ATV safety course Dec. 14 from 8:30 a.m.-4:30 p.m.
This course is being offered in conjunction with the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife.
Participants must be 10 years of age and older. Participants ages 10-15 must be accompanied by an adult. The fee is $5 per person payable upon registration.

The Caribou Middle School eighth-grade boys’ basketball team lost games to Presque Isle and Fort Fairfield before beating Fort Kent in recent action.
In a 35-31 loss at PI Nov. 19, foul shooting down the stretch was the difference as the Wildcats survived. Randon Mortland tallied 15 for the winners, while Nick Allen tossed in 21 points for Caribou.
Viking coach Steve Perreault said Matt Nadeau (six points), Brandon Manter and Seth Beidelman also chipped in offensively, while Bailey Griffeth and Caleb Trombley paced the defense.
On Nov. 22, a short-handed Caribou squad fell behind early and never recovered in a 48-20 loss to the Tigers. Dawson Hebert’s eight points led the Vikings, with Trombley netting six. Hunter Jackson and Noah Rosado stood out defensively for Caribou.
Last Tuesday, Caribou’s size and scoring balance were keys in the 61-31 victory over the Warriors. Allen had 14 and Beidelman 11 to lead the way offensively, with Hebert and Nadeau netting eight apiece. Manter added six more for the victors.
Eight medal at PVHS wrestling tourney
At the Nov. 23 Pre-Season Penobscot Valley High School wrestling tournament, eight Caribou wrestlers earned medals for their top-three performances.
Matt Manter won his third championship in as many years as the lone Viking to win gold.
Caribou wrestlers also capturd three silver and four bronze medals on the day. Rebecca King received coach Chico Hernandez’s “wrestler of the week” award for her third place performance, which included two wins by fall.
Kids’ playgroup offered by recreation department
The Caribou Parks and Recreation department will provide gym space for parents and toddlers.
This is a self-guided program which meets Wednesdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. Participants can bring toys. Please no black rubber-wheeled toys. Please check posted schedules for activities that may result in the cancellation of this open time.
Winter programs have openings
There are still openings for the following Caribou Parks and Recreation winter programs. Grades 3-4 boys and girls basketball, Grade 4-6 girls basketball, grade 5-6 boys basketball and cheerleading for grades 4-6. The fee for these programs is $10 per child for residents and $25 per child for non-residents. Pre-registration is required.
