• E. J. Fenderson, the ice dealer, is cutting ice. He will cut 6,000 two-foot cakes this season.
• A successful term of school closed December 16th at the Doyle District. The number of pupils attending was 19.
100 Years Ago-Dec. 18, 1913
• Of local interest — Miss Jennie Duncan, a student at the seminary at Kents Hill, arrived home to Washburn last Saturday to visit her parents over Christmas. Clifford Condon and Lee Dean of Caswell were in Caribou Wednesday bringing in a load of grain to the roller mill. Miss Alicia Hayford of Maysville is clerking at W. S. Thompson’s drug store through the holidays. Wm. Wright, a brother of John A. Wright of this town, has accepted a postition in the shoe making shop of Leslie McKinney in Fort Fairfield. Stillman Dow of Perham was run over by a loaded sled and his fractured leg was attended by Dr. McManus.

• Stockholm news— An amateur program and dance was held at the Eureka Hall Friday evening sponsored by the Stockholm High School with several contestants taking part. Mrs. Edith Larson has had electric lights recently in her home with George Lindsten doing the wiring. Frederick Anderson has traded his Ford coupe for a new Plymouth coupe.
• Caribou’s cross country champs — At a general assembly held at Caribou High School on Friday morning, a plaque was presented on behalf of the University of Maine by Principal John A. Partridge to the interscholastic cross country championship team. Milton Knox accepted the trophy for fellow team members: Emery Plourde, Leon O’Claire, Emerson Pendleton, Donald McNeal, Fred Corey and Lawrence Hutchinson. The team is coached by Harry Richardson.

• St. Agatha School student news — Arriving home for the holidays from the St. Agatha School this Friday will be Ina Cox, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Cox; Kathy Cyr, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Noel Cyr; Faye Soucy, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roy Soucy; Julie Bourgoin, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Bourgoin; Linda Crockett, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Carl Crockett; Linda Guerrette, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Romeo Guerrette; Julie and Stella Bouchard, daughters of Mrs. Priscille Bouchard and Sonya Bouchard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Montford Bouchard.
• Yule bonuses — Bird’s Eye plant employees in Caribou received Christmas bonuses totaling $53,000 on Monday of this week. The payments authorized by C. G. Mortimer, chairman of the board of directors of General Foods Corporation, were based on salaries and wages paid during the calendar year.

• New school for Washburn — Christmas came early to SAD 45 last week in the form of $5 million in approved funding from the Maine Department of Education. The funds will be used to build a new school for students in kindergarten through grade eight. The facility will replace the burned Washburn Elementary School and the W. C. Foster School.
• Guerrette: Student of the Month — Brian Guerrette, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Guerrette, has been chosen the December “Student of the Month” by the Caribou Chapter of the National Honor Society. He is FFA president for the 1988-89 school year and is also very active on the regional level. Guerrette will represent Caribou High School in the Maine Public Service science project contest.
