LINCOLN — The Caribou Vikings’ wrestling team was victorious once again as they claimed five dual matches at Mattanawcook Academy Saturday.
The Vikings scored wins over Calais (54-12), Penobscot Valley of Howland (42-18), Piscataquis Community of Guilford (54-12), George Stevens Academy of Blue Hill (60-12) and the host Lynx (60-12) to run their dual meet record to 10-0 on the season.
Eric Simon (145-lb. class), Jacob Bither (160), Nolan Powers (170), Matt Manter (195) and Dustin DeMerchant (220) all turned in perfect 5-0 records on the day.
Noah Cousins went 3-2 in the 106-lb. division, Rebecca King 4-1 in 120, Kyle Morris 4-1 in 126, Axios Gerakaris 4-1 in 152 and Colton Conley 4-1 in 285 for the Caribou squad.
Head coach James “Chico” Hernandez said Simon, Morrison, Manter and Gerakaris received special “Viking Wrestler of the Week” designation for their performances.
Manter is now 18-1 overall, while Bither is 18-2 and Morris 17-3 for the team’s top winning percentages.
“I feel at this point of the season, we are getting better and cleaning up mistakes but in my opinion we have a ways to go if we want to be the best,” Hernandez said, who noted the team will return to MA for a tournament which will also include defending Class B state champion and defending Class C champ Foxcroft, which now competes in the B ranks.
“We have to get better and tougher mentally against those teams next week,” said the third-year coach. “It will not be easy, but I feel we will let them know we’re there and surprise a few.”
