CARIBOU — The Caribou Parks and Recreation Department held its first adult dodgeball tournament and it proved to be successful. The event was a fundraiser to help cover costs of new travel team basketball uniforms for the department’s fifth- and sixth-grade league.

The High Flyers came in first place in the Jan. 18 adult dodgeball tournament held at the Caribou Wellness and Recreation Center. Team members are from left, in front, Caleb Roy and AJ Edgecomb. Back row, Justin Fereshetian, Garik Theriault, Josh Churchill, Curtis Picard and Connor Lapierre.

Eleven teams took place in the event, which brought in approximately 150 players and spectators. Each team played six round-robin games before being placed into the double-elimination bracket to see who the ultimate dodgeball champions would be.
The games were played fairly quick giving everyone a good fun workout and allowed for projectiles to be thrown at one another without getting hurt (or arrested). A total of 53 games were played within a 2-1/2 hour time frame.
Entering the semifinal game from the winner’s bracket were the High Flyers and Shockers, with the High Flyers going on to win and advance to the championship game. The Shockers then had to play Average Joe’s in the loser’s bracket and claimed the victory to have to face the High Flyers again in the championship game. Battling back and forth, the High Flyers captured the victory and took first place in the tournament.
Other teams who participated were CPT Boot Camp, Rec Rats, County Boys, Loring Job Corps, Firemen’s Heroes, C.F.A.D. (Caribou Fire and Ambulance Department), Maine DOT and Hensler’s Dirty Dodgers.
