Officials with the Gray Memorial United Methodist Church recently presented officials of the Bread of Life Soup Kitchen with a $700 donation. Pictured are, from left, front row: board member of the soup kitchen Jean Miesburger, Michael Smith and board member Liz Stickles. Back row: Church Pastor Rev. Dr. Thomas Bentum, board member David Hall, Chairperson of Education and Family Ministry Committee for the church Neal Genz, and board members Kenneth Murchison and Tony Mazzucco.

Michael Smith was one church member and high school student who spent much of the three-week timespan selling spruce, fur and pine trees during the first three weeks of December; the group sold a total of 283 trees, according to the Chairperson of Education and Family Ministry Committee Neal Genz.
Having worked nearly 30 hours during the sale, Smith presented soup kitchen officials with the $700 donation on Saturday, just in time for the kitchen’s official re-opening.
The other half of the proceeds were donated as part of  the church’s youth group’s contribution to the Imagine No Malaria campaign.
