CARIBOU, Maine — Six students at the Caribou Middle School have received the distinction of being named “Students of the Month.”
The grade-six teachers have selected Alex Bouchard and Abbi Robbins as students of the month for January.
Alex Bouchard was chosen as one of the sixth grade Students of the Month. His teachers say that Bouchard is an extremely conscientious student that is also involved in the Gifted and Talented program at the school. “(Bouchard) is always striving to do his best and is always prepared for new learning experiences that come his way,” they said. Bouchard played soccer in the fall, basketball on the sixth- and seventh-grade team, AYBL, and also plays on the rec. team. He also plays in the school band.
Abbi Robbins was also chosen as a Student of the Month. Robbins is involved with the chorus program at the school. Her teachers say that “(Robbins) is a joy to have in class, and is constantly striving to be helpful to both her peers and teachers.” Robbins plays basketball at the rec. center.
The grade-seven teaching team have selected Joey Cyr and Xavier York as January Students of the Month.
Teachers say that Joey Cyr is a very kind young man who takes great pride in his work. “He is someone who never gives up on an assignment and keeps asking the appropriate questions until the task is done to the best of his ability,” they said, adding that he is extremely helpful in the classroom and around CMS. “He will often stay after school and help put the chairs up in the classroom or ask if there is an errand to be run,” teachers noted. Cyr is also a person that will lend a hand to a student in need, whether it is giving them a pencil to borrow or explaining a math problem to a student who has been absent.
Xavier York has demonstrated that he is an outstanding leader amongst seventh-graders. According to his teachers, York sets a high bar for his own personal actions and accountability. “He works hard on his studies and consistently produces school work of high quality,” they said. “Xavier on a daily basis demonstrates that he is a very responsible school citizen and is a tremendous help to his peers and teachers alike.”
The grade-eight teaching team has selected Andrew Evans and Danielle Hanson as January Students of the Month.
Danielle Hanson has been selected as the eighth grade Student of the Month for January. Her teachers explained that Hanson was selected because of her positive attitude toward schoolwork, classes, teachers, and her classmates. Hanson is a very active student at Caribou Middle School, participating on the soccer, basketball, and tennis teams. She is also a member of the school band.
“Her leadership skills are second to none and is serving as the school’s Student Organization vice-president,” teachers said. Outside of school, Danielle participates in the Maine Dance Academy as well as AYBL. She also helps out at the restaurant owned by her family, Frederick’s Southside. Hanson’s eighth-grade teachers selected her as student of the month because she is a great example for all at Caribou Middle School with her fabulous work ethic, and her treatment of others makes her a true role model.
The grade eight team has chosen Andrew (Drew) Evans as their Student of the Month for January. “(Evans) was chosen because of his willingness to help others, and his ability to set an example for all who attend CMS,” his teachers explained. Evans enjoys hunting, fishing, bike riding, baseball, and working with his dad. After high school, he wants to pursue a career in heavy equipment maintenance. His teachers said that Evans is always willing to help a fellow classmate, or teacher often without being asked. “He is a wonderful role model to all students, and sets a great example regarding schoolwork, and the treatment of fellow classmates, schoolmates, teachers, and adults,” his teachers added.
