Although too young for adoption, the two siblings will be adoptable in about three weeks. HHPR volunteers are very grateful for all the wonderful donations of clothing and household goods given by the greater public; HHPR President Norma Milton said that a large amount of used shoes came in this week for the recycling program, which provided much financial assistance for the shelter.
“Our hearts are broken for the 16 cats that perished in the ARK Sanctuary in Houlton last week and our prayers are with the dedicated volunteers who had worked with this program and who are grieving deeply,” Milton said. “This is a family crisis for all of us who volunteer to work so hard to save lives and then see this disaster happen.” According to Milton, HHPR will continue being supportive of their ARK friends. HHPR’s Mary Kay fundraiser at the Northeastland Hotel in Presque Isle this past this weekend netted the shelter a $300 donated profit and a $65 profit from the collection jar. “We are donating all this funding to ARK, plus another $200 from our other fundraiser,” Milton said, adding that the Mary Kay providers matched HHPR with another $300 donation to ARK — in total, HHPR volunteers have paid or pledged another $1,100. “We can’t cure the pain of loss, but perhaps knowing people care deeply will help encourage ARK volunteers to rebuild as soon as possible,” Milton said. “ARK volunteers have operated a shelter with outstanding health programs for many years and those health programs are greatly needed in Aroostook County.” Officials with the HHPR unamiously agreed to work even harder to earn funding for the feline medical care the shelter provides, “but Aroostook County cannot afford to lose a shelter of such high caliber of feline care and comfort,” Milton added. HHPR’s newest re-cycling fundraising project located at 159 Bennett Drive in Caribou will gratefully accept nicely used items for resale. All proceeds of our recycle programs go on the HHPR medical bills. FMI or to volunteer to work at the Recycle Store, please call Mary Rowe at 999-1075 for an application.
