Despite all the snow still on the ground, a sure sign of spring is right around the corner as the Caribou Little League gets ready for its 48th season. With opening day scheduled for May 10, the schedules for the parent’s introductory meeting and new player tryouts have been announced.
The league is currently comprised of 11 teams, playing games in Caribou, Woodland and Stockholm. In addition to children who reside in Caribou, North Caribou, Woodland, New Sweden and Stockholm, the league’s boundary map includes Limestone, Fort Fairfield and Washburn. Children in any of those communities that meet the age requirements are eligible and invited to try out for the 2014 season.
There will be a meeting for parents of all children interested in playing in this year’s season, including new and returning players, on Wednesday, April 2 in the Caribou Middle School cafeteria beginning at 6 p.m. Players must be between the ages of 9 and 12 on April 30 to be eligible for the 2014 season. For players new to the league, parents should bring a birth certificate for age verification.
All new players must try out to be selected for a team for the 2014 season. The primary tryout for new players will be held on Saturday, April 5 in the Caribou Recreation Center starting at 9 a.m.
A make-up tryout will be held on Wednesday, April 9 for new players who cannot attend the primary tryout. The make-up tryout will be in the CMS gymnasium beginning at 6 p.m., and will be the final opportunity for a new player to try out for the 2014 season.
