Viking girls are Div. I volleyball champions

The Aroostook League girls’ and boys’ Div. I volleyball tournaments were both played last Wednesday, with the Caribou girls and Presque Isle boys earning championships.

In the girls’ tourney played at Caribou High School, the Vikings went 6-2 in pool play to earn a spot in the finals, and then defeated Presque Isle by scores of 25-15 and 25-16 in the title match.
The Wildcats went 7-1 in pool play. Madawaska (5-3), Fort Kent (2-6) and Houlton (0-8) were the other teams in the tourney.
Making the all-tourney team were Bria Judd of Caribou, Dakota Martin of Fort Kent, Sam Nadeau of Madawaska, Evelyn Pratt of Houlton and Erin Ackerson and Skylar Vogel, both of Presque Isle.
The boys’ tournament took place at Presque Isle High School. The host Wildcats went 8-0 to lead the way in pool play, followed by Madawaska (5-3), Caribou (4-4), Fort Kent (2-6) and Houlton (1-7).
In the championship, Presque Isle downed Madawaska, 25-19 and 25-17.
All-tourney players were Cody Lyford and Saul Nunez, both of Presque Isle, along with Justin Napalapali of Caribou, Ian Lee of Madawaska, Jacob Drew of Houlton and Cody Plourde of Fort Kent.
