CMS captures wrestling championship

    FORT KENT, Maine — The Aroostook League middle school wrestling championship took place Thursday at Community High School, with the Caribou Vikings coming away with the title with a meet-high 174 points.

    Presque Isle was second with 103 points, followed by host Fort Kent with 58 and Union 122 with 24.

    Results from the championship round were as follows: 71 lb. weight class, Jacob Soucy (Caribou) pinned Lance Daigle (Fort Kent) in 57 seconds; 78 lbs., Patrick Lessard (Presque Isle) pinned Wyatt Grant (Union 122) in 30 seconds; 85 lbs, Tyler Wright (Caribou) defeated  Dolcie Tanguay (Fort Kent) by a 10-2 decision; 99 lbs., Evan Michaud (Caribou) pinned Seth Roy (Presque Isle) in 1:07.

    In the 106 lb. category, Caleb McNaughton  (Fort Kent) pinned Mason Young (Presque Isle) in 32 seconds; 113 lbs., Zach Gerakaris (Caribou) pinned Cameron Lahey (Presque Isle) in 2:55; 120 lbs., Joey Cyr (Caribou) defeated Cody Johnson (Fort Kent) by a 6-2 decision; 126 lbs., Isiah Drayton (Union 122) defeated Brody Gallagher (Presque Isle) by a 13-4 decision; 132 lbs., Maxx Langille (Presque Isle) defeated Apollo Grondin (Caribou) by a 3-2 decision; 138 lbs., Dyllan Paddleford (Caribou) pinned  Spencer Soucy (Caribou) in 10 seconds.

    In the 145 lb. division, Caleb Trombley (Caribou) was uncontested; 155 lbs., Alexis Quevedo (Presque Isle) was uncontested; 165 lbs., Trace Cyr (Presque Isle) defeated Carter Conley (Caribou) by a 14-2 decision; 180 lbs., Brandon Manter (Caribou) was uncontested; 200 lbs., Izaiah Thayer (Caribou) was uncontested; 240 lbs., Sarah Levesque (Caribou) was uncontested.

    In the qualification round, Young pinned Nathan Pitre (Caribou) in 53 seconds in the 106 lb. division, Laheay pinned Ian Dubois (Fort Kent) in 2:44 in the 113 lb. division, Hunter Jackson (Caribou) pinned Tommy Popov (Presque Isle) in 58 seconds in their 120 lb. division match; Gallagher pinned Devin Roy (Caribou) in 22 seconds of their 126 lbs. match and Cyr defeated Jordan Labbe (Fort Kent) by a 5-1 decision in the 165 lb. class.
