Robert J. Clavet (Bob), 72, beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great- grandfather passed away suddenly due to complications from the H1N1 flu on Tuesday, February 25, with his family at his side.
Born in New Britain, CT on February 4, 1943, of the late Albert and Loretta (Grondin) Clavet, he spent most of his childhood growing up in northern Maine. After graduation in 1961 from Carbou High School in Maine, Bob joined the Navy and served his country for ten years traveling all over the world and was proud to have served on the aircraft carrier Enterprise during the Vietnam War. Bob met and married Joanne, the love of his life in 1964 and they spent his military service years traveling the world. After leaving the Navy, he settled in California, working as a master electrician at the Long Beach Naval Shipyard where he helped refurbish the battleships Missouri and New Jersey. Bob retired from the Department of Defense, Defense Logistics Agency where he worked in Quality Assurance for the C17 military transport airplane.
A man who loved animals and cared for their welfare, Bob had a special affection for horses and dogs. In retirement Bob was active as a senior volunteer for the California Department of Fish and Wildlife.
Bob Clavet was liked and well respected by those who knew him and left behind a legacy of compassion for animals, strong work ethic, providing for family, and humor. He will be greatly missed by family and friends and all those who loved him.
Mr. Clavet is survived by his wife, Joanne; their son, David of Lakewood; four grandsons, Brandon, Travis, Sam and Justin; and his great-granddaughter Maya. He also leaves behind three sisters, Jacqui Grant of Maine, Peggy Bowen of Connecticut, and Kathy Bellerose of Tennessee; and one brother, Michael Clavet of Maine.
