Signups for the City-Wide Yard Sale finished with a flurry and we have just as many yard sales out there and we always do. That means lots of sales around the area and lots of visitors on Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18 from people all over. Like always, they will come from the north and the south, across boundary lines and upon every road. What a fun weekend for the area! Just drive safely that weekend!
Tickets have begun to sell for the Thursday, May 8 Annual Recognition Dinner at the Caribou Inn & Convention Center. We are honoring some very worthy folks and it would be wonderful if a large crowd would come and give them the kind of Aroostook love they all deserve. Please see the ad in this paper for more details or give me a call!
The Caribou Historical Center and Museum, in honor of Mother’s Day, will feature its collection of women’s hats. The display will be open on Saturdays from April 26 to May 17 from 12-4 p.m. If you would like to honor women in your family by lending the museum their hats for this event, we would be happy to include them in the display. Please bring in the hats on a Saturday during the display. In keeping with museum policy, they must be at least 50 years old. If possible, bring an identified photo or photos of the hat owner. For more information please call
498-2556.
Upcoming display mid-May: Cary Medical Center, in conjunction with the Caribou Historical Center and Museum, will be holding a one day only display of vintage medical equipment at the Museum on Saturday, May 17. The Museum is located at 1033 Presque Isle Rd. The hours of the display will be 12-4 p.m.
I wanted to remind everyone that the Northern Maine Cemetery Corporation will have a Flag Raising on Monday, May 12 at 11 a.m. Thirty flags will be raised to honor deceased veterans at the Avenue of Flags — 29 to honor the memory of a specific deceased veteran and one to honor all deceased veterans. The public is invited.
If you are a family member or friend of a deceased veteran and would like to raise a flag to honor that memory, call 435-6024 for arrangements. Once the flags are raised, they will fly 24/7 through Veterans Day in memory.
On Saturday, May 17, the Veterans Memorial Park Association will present Music Fest at the Caribou Performing Arts Center from 6-9 p.m. Enjoy a night of music with gospel, country, bluegrass and more! There will be a 50/50 and a raffle. Listen to great music while supporting a great cause! For more information, call Doug at 493-4476.
For the past two mornings, two Mallard ducks have waddled across my lawn and took a rest during their travels. They look like a married couple and they tried out my little pond feature in the front yard. If they were on the HGTV network on House Hunters, I would have imagined the wife telling the husband, “We need a lot more space than this for our growing family.”
