The Owl women swept EMCC in Bangor April 19 by scores of 16-4 and 13-5. Whitney Donovan went 3 for 4 and drove in four runs to lead the offense in game one, while Amanda Allen had two hits and scored three runs and Jordan Jandreau also hit safely twice and collected four RBIs.
Krista Coffin notched the pitching win but was removed from the game after suffering an injury in the fifth inning. She struck out six batters in 4-2/3 innings of work, while her replacement, Katlyn Dow, did not allow a hit while going the rest of the way.
Brittany Luetjen and Shannon Brown had three RBIs each and Dow and Donovan combined on the pitching duties as UMPI completed the sweep with the game two victory.
UMPI lost its four most recent games, being swept by both Thomas College on April 21 and by UM-Farmington Saturday. Luetjen was one of the bright spots for the Owls. While her team scored just five times in the four contests, Luetjen figured heavily in the offense in all four games. She had five hits in six at bats against the Beavers and scored a run in each game against the Terriers.
The Owls are now 6-22 on the season.
The UMPI baseball team fell four more times and saw its record drop to 1-26. The Owls were blanked in three of their four most recent games against Fisher College and Rivier College. UMPI was able to plate a pair of runs in the ninth inning of its 7-2 loss to Fisher April 18, but did not score in any other inning during the stretch.
Josiah Brazier, Alex Csiernik and Justin Bergeron all singled to load the bases against the Falcons before Adam Begos ripped a double to score Brazier and Csiernik. UMPI batters struck out 15 times against Fisher pitcher John Tangherlini, who went the first seven innings.
UMPI was beaten by scores of 4-0 and 10-0 in an April 19 twinbill against Fisher, while the squad also lost to Rivier, 3-0, despite strong pitching by the Owls’ Dylan Worster, who surrendered one earned run in eight innings of work.
The Owls played at Div. I University of Maine at Orono Tuesday.
