CARIBOU, Maine — The Viking tennis teams played their first home matches of the season last Tuesday, with both stopping the Houlton Shiretowners.
The Caribou girls and boys are sporting identical 2-1 records heading into their busy slate that includes matches Thursday (at Madawaska), Friday (at home against Fort Kent) and Saturday (at home against Mount Desert Island).

Friday’s match is a make-up from a rainout a week earlier.
Against Houlton, who was playing its first countable match of the spring, the Caribou girls prevailed, 4-1, as all three singles players came out on top. Erin Patton defeated Tessa Winship, 8-0, Clara Collins downed Caleigh Sullivan, 8-1, and Makayla Bouchard bested Janelle Levesque, 8-1.
The teams split the doubles matches, with the Viking No. 1 duo of Bria Judd and Conner Spencer recording an 8-2 win over Emily Mooers and Piper Flewelling, while the Shires’ June Choi and Lexi Bartlett were too much for Brittany Dickinson and Taylor Belanger, winning 8-2.
The Viking boys spoiled Houlton’s regular-season opener by a 3-2 final. Caribou dominated singles play, with Michael Marquis topping Ethan Nickerson, 8-1, Ethan Plourde rolling past Josh Sullivan, 8-2; and Brendan Cyr picking up a convincing 8-1 win over Lucas Grant.
In doubles, Houlton won both matches as Robby Woods and Steven Phillips doubled up Austin Scott and Justin Cheplic, 8-4, while Chris Crane and Dakota Gramour garnered an 8-2 victory over Dustin Cote and Dylan Cote.
