WOODLAND – Elverine “Ellie” Stephens Thomas, 61, died May 5, 2014, at Presque Isle following a brief illness. She was born in Fond du Lac, Wisconsin, February 13, 1953, the daughter of the late Gene and Loretta (Kelley) Stephens.
She was a graduate of Mt. View High School and was employed as a manager at First Technologies in Caribou for a number of years. She was an active member of the Caribou United Baptist Church, where she was a member of the American Baptist Women’s group, the Robinson Mission Circle, and taught Sunday school. Ellie was very involved with mission work and made numerous mission trips to countries all over the world. She was a volunteer at Cary Medical Center where she knitted many baby blankets for the nursery, as well as Operation Christmas Child. She married Robert Thomas June 7, 1997.
Surviving in addition to her husband of Woodland are her stepmother, Lynne Stephens of Wales; one son and daughter-in-law, Gene and Kyra Flaherty of Sabattus; her stepchildren, Robert Thomas II and wife, Jackie, of Oakgrove, Missouri, Deborah Walo and husband, Robert, of Oxford; one sister, Jackie Garey and husband, Mike, of Mechanic Falls; two brothers, David Stephens and wife, Kathryn, of Oxford and Danny Stephens of Oregon; one stepsister, Michelle Banville and husband, John II, of Wales; her grandchildren, Molly Flaherty, Meredith, Audrey, Robert II and John Thomas, Maeve and Taylor Wood, and Eileen Walo; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and nephews, and cousins.
Friends may call at the Mockler Funeral Home, 24 Reservoir Street, Caribou from 7-9 p.m. Wednesday. Funeral services will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, May 8, 2014, from the Caribou United Baptist Church with Pastor Troy Heald officiating, assisted by Rev. Dr. Gary Johnson. Interment will be in the Northern Maine Veterans Cemetery.
