LIMESTONE – Roger J. Johndro, 79, husband of Barbara J. (Skidgel) Johndro, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, April 30, 2014, in Perth-Andover, New Brunswick. He was born May 23, 1934, in Limestone, the son of Dolphis and Annie (Page) Johndro.
    Roger was educated in Limestone schools and went on to serve his country with the United States Air Force during the Korean War as a heavy equipment operator. He was married to Barbara J. Skidgel on February 20, 1954, and had been employed by the Lane Construction Corp. as a heavy equipment operator, retiring in 1998 after thirty-six years of dedicated service.
    Mr. Johndro was a member of the Limestone United Methodist Church, and the American Legion O’bar-Phair Post Number 127, Limestone. Roger was a Master Mason at the Limestone Masonic Lodge Number 214 AF & AM where he served in numerous offices including three terms as Worshipful Master. He also held the distinction of being a 32nd degree Freemason, being a member of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite, Valley of Bangor, the Royal Arch Masons, the Maine Consistory, the Anah Temple Shrine, the Aroostook County Shrine Club and the Order of the Eastern Star, Lunar Chapter, Presque Isle.
    Roger was also an avid sportsman, and loved hunting and fishing.
    In addition to his parents, Roger was predeceased by eight brothers, Lawrence, William, Reed, Donald, Pius, Sylvio “Joe”, Raymond and Reginald Johndro; and one sister, Annette Stratton. He is survived by his wife of sixty years, Barbara of Limestone; two sons and daughters-in-law, Jeffrey and Patricia Johndro, and Dwain “Dewey” and Cheryl Johndro, all of Limestone; one daughter and son-in-law, Cathy and Jim Hurley of Cameron Park, CA; one brother and sister-in-law, Norman and Verna Johndro of Limestone; two sisters, Cecille Stevens of Troy, NY, and Joan Johndro of Caribou; five grandchildren, Tanya Nalley and her husband, Chip, of California, Derek Giggey of Limestone, Kara Hamilton and her husband, John, of Caribou, Meagan Janowski and her husband, Stephen, of Windham, Kanessa Keenan and her husband, Brian, of Caribou; four great-grandchildren, Morgan, Brynne, Kaeven and Aidan; numerous nieces and nephews.
    Friends called Sunday evening, May 4, 2014, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield, where a Masonic memorial service was conducted by the officers and members of the Limestone Lodge Number 214 AF & AM. The funeral service was conducted Monday, May 5, at 11 a.m. at the Limestone United Methodist Church, Main Street, Limestone with Pastor Ellen Cleaves officiating. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments followed in the church reception area. A service of committal with full military honors was held Tuesday, May 6, at 2 p.m. at the Northern Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery Committal Canopy, 37 Lombard Road, Caribou.
