CARIBOU, Maine — Highway Tire Inc. first opened its doors 50 years ago, and the company was honored for their milestone anniversary during the Caribou Area Chamber of Commerce’s annual Recognition Dinner on May 8 at the Caribou Inn and Convention Center.
Director of the CACC William Tasker praised the company, highlighting how they continued to thrive despite the closing of the Loring Air Force Base in 1994.
“This business started during the hay times and has survived through the times that followed, and are still with us doing a great job today,” Tasker said. “The only way you can be in business for 50 years and be successful is by taking care of your customers — it’s the only way you can do it,” he added, mentioning that some companies understand that idea more than others — and Highway Tire Inc. has always understood it. “Everybody I’ve ever talked to about this company has a positive thing to say about them and their services.”
The award was received by Scott Willey, of Highway Tire.
“Probably the best thing about this award is that my parents are still alive to see it,” he said. “They started the company in 1964, and the values they started it on were hard work and dedication; they were dedicated to the business, dedicated to their children and to each other — and this year is their 64th wedding anniversary,” Willey added, to which the audience applauded.
“Over the years, my brother and sister and I, as well as a lot of employees, have worked hard to grow the business, improve the business, expand it and modernize it,” he explained, “but we couldn’t have done that without the start that our parents gave us.”
