Thomas, Marie E., 99, May 13, 2014.  A celebration of her life will be held in the near future.

AR Marie ThomasMarie left this life on May 13, 2014, at a Clearwater, Florida hospital with two dear friends and neighbors by her side. Marie was born on March 28, 1915, in “The County” in Maine to Perley and Viola (Ireland) Quimby.
She attended the Hinkley Goodwill School and was a registered nurse and a proud graduate of the Portland School of Art whose president, well known artist Alexander Bower, said of Marie “Watch this girl, she’s got good technique.” Marie was a totally delightful person who had many talents. She was a soloist in her church choir, she modeled for Bernie’s Fashions of Portland, and she made costumes for the Portland Lyric Theater as well as painting.
Marie was married to Cedric H. Thomas until his death in 1995. Marie and Cedric were completely devoted to each other and loved to travel and collect art and antiques. Marie was a very accomplished artist herself and left behind many wonderful paintings of Cape Elizabeth, Maine. She especially enjoyed her time with The Portland Players and the Portland Lyric Theater.
Marie and Cedric were the toast of the town, whether they were enjoying their picturesque home in Cape Elizabeth or enjoying their beautiful Madeira Beach house, and their company was much sought after and enjoyed by their many friends, north and south.
In addition to her beloved husband, Cedric, predeceasing her were her brothers, Arnold Quimby and Harold Quimby. In recent years, Marie lived year-round in Madeira Beach and enjoyed many activities with her special friends and neighbors, Jeannie Carlson and Jeannie Farnan, and many others. She enjoyed visits from her good friend, Susan Duchaine. She is survived by her sister, Mildred Reece of Houlton, and several nephews, nieces and grandnephews and grandnieces. Mildred and Marie were able to enjoy time together in her last weeks.
There will be no calling hours, but a celebration of Marie’s inspiring life will be held in the near future. Everyone who knew Marie was the better for it.
