FORT FAIRFIELD – Gregory A. McNamee, 64, husband of Ruthanna (Rice) McNamee, unexpectedly went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Thursday May 15, 2014, while doing what he loved, tinkering in his garage at his Fort Fairfield home. He was born August 11, 1949 in Fort Fairfield, the son of J. Arnold and Mazie A. (Brayall) McNamee.
Greg was a graduate of the Fort Fairfield High School Class of 1968 and went on to serve his country with the United States Air Force from 1970 to 1974 where he earned the rank of sergeant. Greg also served with the Maine National Guard for over thirty years and worked at the National Guard F.S.M. Shop, Caribou for a number of years. He had also been employed over the years at M.C. Locke Company, Fort Fairfield, the Fort Fairfield School Department as a bus driver and the Maine Military Authority, Limestone.
Greg was a member of the Fort Fairfield Bethel Baptist Church and was married to Ruthanna Rice on March 14, 1987. Greg loved anything involving “Old Iron,” especially antique vehicles and tinkering in his shop. He was also an avid outdoorsman who loved to hunt, fish and enjoy nature.
In addition to his parents, Mr. McNamee was predeceased by his brother, Jeffrey McNamee, on February 27, 2001. He is survived by his wife of twenty-four years, Ruthanna of Fort Fairfield; one son, Clay A. McNamee of Eagle Lake; one daughter, Amy J. McNamee of Fort Fairfield; one step-daughter, Tara S. Mai and her husband, Walter, of Inter-national Falls, MN; three brothers and sisters-in-law, Timothy and Lana McNamee, Hadley and Brenda McNamee, Mitchell McNamee, Mrs. Jeffrey (Arna) McNamee, all of Fort Fairfield; one sister, Loretta Holmes of Caribou; five grandchildren, Isaiah McNamee & Lexis Turcotte, both of Fort Fairfield, Shania and Hunter Mai, and Layni St. Peter, all of International Falls, MN; numerous special nieces and nephews, and extended family members.
Friends called Monday, May 19, 2014, from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Giberson-Dorsey Funeral Home, 144 Main Street, Fort Fairfield. The funeral service was conducted Tuesday May 20, 2014, at 11 a.m. at the Bethel Baptist Church, corner of Main and Presque Isle Street, Fort Fairfield with Marty Thompson officiating. Interment with military honors followed at the Riverside Cemetery, Fort Fairfield. A time of continued fellowship with refreshments was held at the church after the interment.
