Irving, St. Peter walk away with track titles

CARIBOU, Maine — The Penobscot Valley Conference Large School Championships for track and field were held Saturday, hosted by Caribou High School.
The Hampden Academy girls and the Old Town boys were crowned meet champions.
League records were set in the boys’ 800 by Ellsworth’s Dan Curts, whose time of 1:53.19 beat the old mark of 1:54.6 set by Parker Pruett of Sumner in 1997; in the girls’ 800 by Aleta Looker, also of Ellsworth, who came in at 2:16.79 to best Oriana Farley of Hampden’s old record of 2:17.05 from 2003; and in the boys’ 4×100 relay by Old Town’s Austin Comeau, Nicolas Boutin, Charles Moody and Thomas Darby, whose time of 44.59 seconds was .1 faster than the mark Hampden had established last year.
The Vikings’ wins both came in the 1,600-meter race walk. Alissa Irving won the girls’ competition in 8:24.74 and Mitchell St. Peter was the boys’ winner in 7:41.73.
The Caribou girls scored 39 points to take eighth place out of nine competing teams.
For the boys, Caribou scored 56 points and was seventh out of eight teams.
